Removable devices are the perfect prey for viruses and malicious software. In fact, it is enough to connect a virus-infected pendrive to a 'healthy' PC to compromise the latter's proper functioning.
But how does a USB stick infect a PC? Simple, a file called 'autorun.inf' is to blame. This file contains the indication of which programme, whether or not contained on the pendrive, is to be started when the pendrive is connected to the computer. In infected pendrives, this file therefore tells the PC to start the virus contained in it so that it can attack your PC. In addition, it may contain files that appear to be safe, but once opened contain viruses or malware.
It is therefore extremely important, before allowing your computer to read the contents of an external device, to check that the latter does not contain any threats. The antiviruses include an automatic removable device scan function: make sure it is activated and if you are unable to find and activate it yourself, ask your IT consultant for help or contact our support.
