A traditional virus-scanning application relies on a pre-existing list of virus files that are not authorised to run. For the virus-scanner to remain effective, the pre-existing list must be continuously updated to identify new dangers. Whitelist technology addresses the problem in the opposite way and prevents the execution of any file that is not registered in the whitelist.
What is whitelisting? Whitelisting is a procedure used to prevent unauthorised programmes or third-party software from being installed and activated on machines; in this way, security and reliability are ensured. The purpose is to protect devices from viruses and other dangerous applications.
Benefits
Reduces maintenance and quality problems
Protects devices from viruses and unauthorised software
Ensures that authorised code cannot be corrupted by preventing alterations in all types of certain files, directories and registry keys
Most antivirus software includes a whitelisting solution: if you are unable to implement it yourself, please consult your IT consultant or contact our support.
